We are deeply sorry to announce that Derek Sederman died on Thursday 1st November 2018. Unfortunately, he never regained his health or strength after a major operation, and died in the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
It is impossible to imagine the OA Club without Derek. Since his retirement from teaching, he has been the centre of OA life and activities, organising club functions, initiating and maintaining contact with members, helping with fundraising appeals, and offering and dispensing wise advice to all. He served untiringly as the Secretary of the OA Club, he rescued the OA Yearbook and then edited it for many years, and most recently was our President.
We will miss his devotion to all things Abbotsholmian, his unstinting service to the school and the club, his intellectual acuity, his unmatched (and unmatchable) understanding and appreciation of the history of the school, his loyalty and his utter steadfastness.
We send Elizabeth, Ann, Andrew, Richard and their families our sincere condolences at this saddest of times.
There will be a memorial service at Abbotsholme in 2019 to which all OAs will be invited.
If you would like to make a donation in Derek’s memory, please go to the RNLI website.
