It is with sadness that we pass on news of the death of Ian Small. The Headmaster of Bootham School in York for many years, Ian was a former Head of English and Drama at Abbotsholme, Housemaster of Millholme and an Abbotsholme Governor.
Ian died peacefully on 29th October, after a brief and courageous fight against cancer. He is survived by his three daughters, Catherine, Naomi and Hannah.
Ian was another of the Abbotsholme ‘greats’ who inspired all whom he taught, and who enabled youngsters to grow and develop into better forms of themselves. His life and achievements were celebrated in a simple but very moving Quaker Memorial Meeting, which was attended by club Chair Jenny Richardson on 11th November.
Many OAs have written touching tributes on the OA Facebook page and the Bootham website. Ian’s eldest daughter, Catherine, is gathering a collection of remembrances for the family and would be grateful if you could forward on to her your stories, memories or anecdotes of Ian.
