What started as a decision to publish the Year Book digitally has lead to the production of this website. We originally indicated that it would be and mailed to member's e-mail addresses, but have now decided to make it available here, where we can post news throughout the year. The site also allows us to provide easier access to other club information, such as:
Member list and contact information
There are two main reasons for this change.
Firstly, as the number of members grows we are faced with ever increasing costs of production and mailing. The total annual cost of the exercise at present is just over £4000. The School kindly pays the postage but that gesture balances the Bursary Money which we give to the School each year so that it can be argued that our Bursary Fund is doing no more than paying the postage costs for the Year Book.
It seems wrong that over, shall we say, a ten year period £40,000 is spent on a Year Book which can be e-mailed for very little from a source which is exactly the same as the one taken to the printers.
Secondly, more and more people are getting used to receiving information in a digital form and with the increase in laptop and tablet devices it is easier and easier to access and read online. The system is used now by many organizations.
All members for whom we have an email address have now been contacted with login details for this site.
